Hope United Methodist Church - About Us

You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers – or we can find someone who does…

FAQ: What denomination is this?
Hope is part of the United Methodist Church, which is the second largest Protestant denomination in America. We are the home to both President Bush and Senator Dole, as well as President Clinton’s family when he was in the White House.  See, we really do welcome everyone!

FAQ: I absolutely do not believe in God. Am I still welcome?
Yes, absolutely. Hope UMC is a place where you can openly wrestle with tough questions, especially questions regarding God and faith.  Bring it on!

FAQ: What do I do with my kids?
We love kids and we have a lot for them to do.  We provide childcare for children up to age 5, so as an alternative to wrestling with your children during worship, you can tackle the big questions instead.  Seriously though, our informal service is structured so that families can spend the first part of worship together, then children are invited to have a moment with the Pastor, and then are dismissed to Children’s Church for kids in Kindergarten through 4th grade.  Older children often serve as assistants/mentors in Children’s Church.

FAQ: Who funds this place?
We do! The people of Hope UMC.  Some folks say you should tithe 10%, however, at Hope UMC, we feel giving is a personal issue, we aren’t going to ask to see your W2’s or anything like that.  You can give anonymously, or if you would like to have a yearly accounting of your giving for tax reasons, we have envelopes you can fill out – so we’ll keep track for you.  Please visit our Finance page to find out how United Methodist Churches all over the world pool our finances to do some really, really cool things on a global scale.

If you’re visiting, please remember that you’re our guest, so feel free to pass the plate along – if you’re a member of Hope, don’t forget that God loves a cheerful giver!

FAQ: What does Hope UMC expect from it’s members?
Hope UMC expects members to share their prayers, presence, gifts and service with both the church (Hope UMC and the church in general) and the world.  Specifically, this means:

  1. Attend worship regularly.
  2. To continue to grow in your faith by participating in a small group study and/or Sunday School.
  3. To serve God with your hands, by volunteering in service to the congregation, the community and world.
  4. To give in proportion to your income.

FAQ: How do I join Hope UMC?
If you are considering membership at Hope UMC, the first step is to let Pastor Ann know by telling her on your way out after worship, or you can give her a call (937-746- 3173).  She’ll hook you up with classes where you'll learn more about the church and review expectations regarding membership.
